Thin lines

I’m not personally a tattoo enthusiast or aficionado, but I do occasionally ❤️ Instagram posts and tweets should something geeky hit my feed. Think this or this.

That said, I have actually done a few tattoo designs over the past few decades. Twenty years ago, my brother requested a Mother Mary image for his shoulder, and I delivered this rather rough sketch:

Wrinkles courtesy of time passed.

Now he’s requested additional religious imagery for his other shoulder, and though I don’t often do commission art these days, for family…I’m up for a challenge.

And this challenge was to conjure imagery of St. Michael, which traditionally includes a sword, shield, angelic wings, etc. As a career law enforcement professional, my brother also specifically wanted nods to the “Thin blue line” movement, divine rays and clouds.

The final result:

Initial design exploration in Procreate. Final rendering in Infinite Painter. Both on iPad.
