today is the first sunny day both this month and boy have seen. yes, it’s partly cloudy, and blustery as all get-out, but dammit does it ever feel good right down to the core of me to stand outside and have the warm sun cancel the cool breeze, with the full-headed trees’ leaves all applauding the wind’s concert.
i’m trying to arrange some of my recent photography… spring always tends to be the most photogenic in terms of colour variety, with everything in bloom and the the hang of the sun in the sky just-so, casting itself so uniquely this time of year. i’m going to try and refrain from any further photos of myself until i get more requests… it’s a mixed bag, i tell you, to try pleasing everyone at once. for every two people who want more, one person comments how many there already are. i have a good mind to go through and tidy that gallery up as it is. i have plenty of new drawings, paintings, etc that i’m working on scanning, resizing and whatnot so i can update the art gallery. it’s been so long it seems, and i certainly haven’t been idle the whole time. i’ll try to post a few new items below nonetheless.
the new star wars movie came out thursday for anyone holed up in a cave someplace this past week. i have no problem admitting there’s a certain level of geek within that gets excited about things like new computer processors, video game systems, and science fiction. since i hadn’t pre-purchased tickets for either the midnight showing or the opening night, i figured i was out of luck to see it until well-after the masses who had planned ahead. i had even gone so far as to ask around the office if anyone knew of a private screening for the company, since we often have special events for the big releases where we’re invited by the movie studio to attend a free (pre)screening of a film, sometimes even with free refreshments. it’s awfully fucking cool to be sure, but nobody had heard a thing, and for those who know how secretive george lucas and company seem to be with protecting their intellectual property right up to the release, it was generally accepted that a private show was nothing more than a pipe dream. but lo and behold a few days before, i was offered a couple passes to a special screening, just for our couple teams; not just anywhere, but the special DLP theatre right out by my place.. it’s the only one i know of in the state. needless to say it was pretty kickass to have our own private theatre, see it before opening night, AND walk past the rest of the geeks all engarbed in their star wars paraphernalia; some having camped out for days. you can only imagine the confused and churning looks you get from these people who are so enraptured by the event that they are moved to a full gamut of emotion just in the course of a conversation about the movie. bottom line: it fucking kicked holy ass… you have to see this movie if you’re at all familiar with the series, and if you’re not yet familiar, take some time to rent them on dvd (widescreen only, please), and watch them in release chronology (starting with episode iv from 1977). this final film makes it all worthwhile. ok, end geek rave.
i’ve been on my running kick again the past few weeks, now that the treadmill has been restored to working order. it’s shameful to admit the 15 pounds gained over the time it was out of commission, just due to a lack of proper exercise. running is about the only athletic thing i can do with any degree of accomplishment, that i also can enjoy. the extra weight is proof positive that diet alone has little effect on one’s physique.. my healthy eating (low-fat, low-calorie) did little to stave off the pudge gremlins. but alas, i’ve been able to reduce myself what feels like remarkably over just 3 weeks’ time, in addition to conditioning myself from a 12-minute mile down to multiple 7-minute miles in a fairly short time. speaking of which.. time to go do my 3 miles before heading out to the theatre. yes, we’re going to see revenge of the sith again, with a few people who haven’t yet.
with that, i’ll close and leave you with a few images… leave a comment if you like!
