for those who don’t know, these are the lunch ladies from my old high school; faces that i saw nearly every day for years. it’s good to see something nice happen to people who’ve worked so hard for so long; life shouldn’t only be easy for the lucky punks like me.

new and tired experiences
these bleeding bugs have got to go! you likely know the type: ladybug impostors–orange, not red; some with spots, many with few or none; and they reek like dust on steroids–scummy bastards. as if that weren’t enough, they seem to have formed an alliance of sorts with these box elder bugs to accumulate and conspire to annoy the human existence.
i’ve been having this unrelenting urge to visit the various clothing shoppes in search for new additions; i’m sure some of you know the feeling–of your closet seeming more stale everyday. not that i’m looking for a new wardrobe; just a breath of fresh air. but i really dislike shopping alone, and for the life of me, i can’t find anyone to join me–be it conflict of schedule or their general disinterest–i will probably never know the difference…guess i’ll have to do without, or swallow this pride and go it solo.
such a gorgeous weekend; i’m hoping to have a few things accomplished by the end of it. car wash (or two), winter vehicle secured, laundry completed, and sorting through my old desk accoutrements…hoping to find something to add to my desk.
yes, in case you haven’t heard, i’ve been offered (and have accepted) a full-time position at best buy advertising, as opposed to the freelance status i’ve held there for the past 2 weeks, and am i ever excited!
i do have a poem, written yesterday; i’ll try to get it posted this afternoon sometime. it’s so nice that i might spend a good deal of the afternoon outdoors again and write another

lost time and databases
the week has gone by rather quickly! i’ve managed to keep myself busy with work, and although i didn’t reap any overtime, my time still found a way to slip out from beneath me. and now here i am, saturday morning, about ready to indulge my ninja turtle fancy again.
if anyone noticed the aquafarium was down for a few hours last night, it was because i was updating the computer and server software, and ran into a few problems. in fact, i thought i’d accidentally deleted the database housing the forium..and boy was i frightened! but suddenly, it all reappeared. thank god!
time for ninja turtles! i’ll write later…
physical shortcomings
thank god the weather is pleasant this weekend, today especially. what a shitty weekend to have to deal with gloomy weather; i’m sure it would only amplify the depressing realities which wrap around one’s eyes like such expensive eyewear. although i’m on the brink of gaining a job i’ve sought for years, it seems i’ve lost or will soon be losing everything else which is meaningful. grin and bear it, keep ya head up. easy advice to give once past the hardship!
i am seriously and actively seeking an appropriate winter replacement for the z. i have gotten no response from the dealership which sold me an ill-equipped car, but at the same time, i would rather drive something ‘disposable’ than ruin the z in any fashion during the winter months! plus, for anyone who knows my retentiveness with automobile sanitation, i would feel much better not seeing it all scuffed by salts and other winter cruelties. ideal replacements so far are suv/truck types, preferably those with 4×4 capabilities.
a real sense of loss, and the helplessness therein caused by forces beyond one’s control; someone else’s fickle fancies:

another fantastic meeting this morning! very exciting business i tell you.
two quotes of the day:
“to make a long story short, don’t tell it”
“i think there’s a fine artist inside you just itching to get out”
in fact, i have been working on some larger scale drawings in pastel. one of which is just personal, the other is a gift for one of my friends. a bit risqu?, but turning out mostly well. i have let my pastel skills recede a bit as of late, and it’s such a fascinating medium, i just had to return to it. funny how at first i treat each stick like a pencil, lightly causing thin, slight lines; the wrong strokes to apply to such a large canvas. pastel sticks are thick for a reason. the more i work with them, the more fluid and free the strokes become, being more impressionist as i go along.
i’m sure someone else has done or tried it before, but i stumbled upon it completely under my own discovery a few years back and just loved it; mixing pastel with wet media, such as gouache and water-colour. pastel pigment becomes incredibly vibrant and opaque when water and brush are applied. black becomes a truly solid, matte finish. charcoal is another interesting category to toss in the mix. i suppose in a simplistic manner, adding water to pastel isn’t far off from what real paint is. the nice thing about pastel is the powder particles are very fine and much more lucid in their aqueous solution, and like water can spread to fill and settle into each groove, the pastel is just the same, making the coverage nice and even.
had don pablo’s the other night for the first time since independence day. man, that craving was so wonderful to satisfy. seems once or twice a week i have the urge to eat there, but something usually deters or diverts me. wow….the fresh chips and salsa are something this man cannot live without..heh.
on another note, i’m looking for a method to identify the IP addresses used by a specific client on a specific domain, namely roadrunner’s minneapolis business class service. this information is to be used for updating my apache server to “ban” and reject users from those ip addresses. if you have information on such a methodology, please contact me!
well back to it. thanks for reading! i have a few poems lying around from the past month, but haven’t had the desire to polish or post them. stay tuned, and we’ll see if i get to it. heh.

edited yesterday’s post a bit. in case you didn’t catch it: too bad. if you did, good for you. at least i left the poem online!
excited that the new matrix trailer is out! i can’t wait. it’s almost the star wars of our generation, because frankly, although the ‘new’ star wars episodes are great; they’re not the same as the original 3…just something different about them. hopefully the matrix won’t ever get into the prequel business.
today is boring. i absolutely can’t stand the cold, and it’s getting worse every day! i even had to bring my leather jacket along last night, ‘just in case’. ugh. what will i do with z, if it gets dirty during the winter? drive-through washes just don’t work very well, not to mention it sits so low to the ground that i’ve heard some owners’ horror stories how the automated tracks the car is pulled along has done extensive damage to the underbody!! that just won’t do.
that’s it for now; maybe time for a run. broke my personal best with time/distance yesterday…i hope to continue the trend

had a fantastic interview yesterday! great company, great people… looking forward to great things
many thanks to kevin for lending me a zip drive, that i could add some great last-minute pieces to the portfolio, available only on zip disks, and my drive lie connected to my parents computer up in st. cloud!
still not looking forward to winter; it’s becoming painfully more apparent every day that as winter is slowly edging out summer in their colourful arm-wrestling match. hopefully this year i’m able to capture some of it on “film”!
time for a spot of coffee…perhaps a post later!
