Unscribble #12: Escape Velocity

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 30 December, 2017
Escape Velocity logo
Cut ‘n Run. Leave behind all of life’s problems and never give a damn again, only with Escape Velocity.

Escape velocity traditionally refers to the speed required to break free from a planet’s gravitational field and enter outer space. Such a trip has also traditionally been limited to trained scientists in care of agencies funded by national governments.

No longer.

Escape Velocity, a new joint-venture of Matsumura Fishworks and Tamaribuchi Heavy Manufacturing Concern, allows regular Earth citizens to evade the troubles of everyday life quickly and discreetly; achieving a very satisfying double entendre. Underwater on your mortgage? Overdue with your bookie? Partner a real drag? Escape with prompt velocity.

Shown are successive sketches of the same logo, of course the first built around one of my daughter’s errant scribbles, though sadly I no longer remember which precedes the other. I certainly imagine an excellent polished, finished product if pushed further.

Unscribble #11: Pirate Pizza Cone

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 22 April, 2017
Pirate Pizza Cone
The ultimate rage: pizza served with an extra flap of crust wrapped around the narrows for convenient on-the-go scarfage.

Once upon a time in the distant future, history will recall dark times when greasy palms fumbled with sliced pizza. Rather than resort to additional utensils, which history will also note the failed chopstick pizza wars of the late 2100s, a novel, elegant solution cured the whole sum of Earth’s troubles several times over by simply extending the crust in manner that it can be wrapped around the narrows in a conical fashion not unlike that used to serve ice cream, allowing for convenient consumption anywhere, anytime.

The savior: Pirate Pizza Cone. The first. The original. Accept no imitations, lest ye be forced to walk an indeterminate plank.

Would like to see a swash-buckling type of calligraphic treatment given to the word mark.

Unscribble #10: Bunny Scorcher Spirits

Bunny Scorcher Spirits logo
Just in time for Easter, a sweltering alcoholic beverage that will sear little Johnny’s tastebuds right. fucking. off.

Jelly beans will never taste the same once you’ve tried Bunny Scorcher’s 160 proof distillations, and that’s because your mouth will lack sensory receptors after a single shot.

The first FDA-approved spirits brand for children, it is equal parts Pokemon and Jackalope, and will turn your 8-year old into a hairy-chested adult in 8 minutes, prompt.

It also grants wishes, but never refunds. YMMV.

Unscribble #9: Sui Man Chu mens hair products

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 23 February, 2017

Sui Man Chu hair products for men are renowned the fictional world-over for their responsible ingredient sourcing and professional, salon grade quality.

The logo is a visual and literal pun. Sui (æ°´) in Japanese means “water”, implying either that wet-hair look, or short for suika, “watermelon”. Man does double duty standing for men’s products, or as part of Fu man chu; that glorious facial hairstyle of decades past.

Apologies for cheating on the lettering; the ink version was just a bit too close to the mark and unattractively compressed. I brushed it out and input a sketch-level bit of typography.

Unscribble #8: Sharksichord guitar amps

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 11 February, 2017
The angelic acoustics as only the reverberation of rows of shark incisors can produce.

The gentle embrace of a shark tail fin around the delicate arms and scrolls of a lyre. Yes, perhaps a misnomer when looking at technical labels for musical instruments, the lyre is likely what most people are thinking of when they hear “harp” or “harpsichord”.

Anyway, this fictional company specializes in amps and high-fidelity strings for rock music. As pictured, I imagine this magical beast belting out one of the greater hits of legendary hairband Steelheart.

Unscribble #7: Conjoined Cobra

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 3 February, 2017
Conjoined Cobras is a producer of fine spirits from the foothills of northern Morocco.

Conjoined Cobras is a fictional brand of prestige in the production of refined liquors. It is also known for its unique slot-mouth bottles that mimic the gills of a cobra, aerating the beverage as it pours, for maximum flavor.

I’d really like to explore this one with more of an old-world emblem/crest style, but I will happily thank my daughter for helping me get this far with her masterful scribbles.

Drippy Bird update

  • Post author By Aaron Hoffmann
  • Post date 25 January, 2017

Well that was quicker than expected. I wound up churning out a couple pages of ideas based on the original Drippy Bird “Unscribble”. I just felt that was less of a logo/brand identity and more of a crap illustration, yet still an idea that deserved a proper execution.

Among the three images below, a few solid core concepts could be selected and fleshed out further, but I’m happiest with the final image: a single, simplified version of the original mark.

Thoughts?

Page 2; I like pretty much all of these, though the spilled egg yolk in the lower right could easily be worked into part of the word mark as a capital D (also shown).
Page 1. I like the two “paisley” style phoenix designs toward the bottom, right; and the “bird-splash” falling from the eggshell. Ignore the Mario brothers shield emblem.
Print it! I might actually increase the volume of precipitation to help drive home the connection between the visual, word “Drippy”, and product lines.
